Please meet... Sawyer Parkman Capps !!!

We had the opportunity to see our son, Sawyer, last Friday. The 4-D ultrasound was amazing. Laura and I had been waiting to tell our family and friends his name until we had these pictures developed. Last week we bought an unfinished picture frame for our parents and my grandparents. Laura wrote his name in pencil on the frame and then I engraved it into the wood. We then stained the frames and inserted the picture you see on top. They all came over Friday evening and watched the ultrasound and they learned his name after opening their "gift".
Listen, if you want to know where the name came from you will have to ask Laura. She sat up in bed one evening, long before we knew what the baby was going to be, and said that she really liked the name Sawyer. I liked it as well and after adding her maiden name to the mix we now anxiously await the arrival of Sawyer Parkman Capps. Sawyer is an English name that means "worker of wood". Kinda appropriate for our family! Take care and please keep Laura and Sawyer in your prayers. Joseph

I have to admit that he has a "snout" like his Daddy!

Rick and Bubba's "Turkey Toss" 2008

Laura and I love listening to the Rick and Bubba Show most every weekday. When they decided to have their annual "Turkey Toss" in Auburn this year we knew we had to check it out. "Turkey Toss" coinsists of contestants throwing frozen turkeys for distance. The person from each of the categories that throw their bird the furthest distance won $$.We didn't throw but we watched them do the show live. After arriving at 5:30am we were pretty much frozen by the time the sun came up. It was fun though. The guys are hilarious and the Zac Brown band was great! Take Care and say a prayer that Auburn does their best this Saturday!

Ladies Night at St. Luke UMC

Thursday evening I had the opportunity to join my sister, Ashley, at her church in Columbus for a ladies program. The keynote speaker was Heather Whitestone McCallum, former Miss America. She shared her testimony and gave a great presentation. My niece and nephew Georgia-Lee and Benjamin Smith had some interesting questions for her. EXCITING NEWS... I felt our son move for the first time during Mrs. McCallum's prestentation.. He kicked or pushed two different times. It was pretty neat to actually feel him. I'm sure that he will be busy from now on out. Laura Ashley, MissAmerica, Laura

Half-Way Checkup

I had my half-way checkup yesterday. The results were GREAT!! Our doctor told us that all measurements were good and in-line with my due date of March 25, 2009. We also got to listen to his heartbeat again. It is at 160 right now which is appropriate for his development. As always, I had a ton of questions....Joseph did too! We have quite a few friends who are expecting and only a few days ahead or behind my due date. Naomi O'Reilly and her husband Matt are expecting their son on March 22,2009. Katherine and Greg Brewer are finding out today what they will be having. This will be baby number two for them. Their daughter, Elaine, recently turned one. She is so cute!! My sister Jill and her family are coming to Auburn's homecomng activities this weekend. The boys are very excited about wearing their Scout uniforms to the game. We will go to the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences homecoming Bar-B-Q on Saturday since both of my brothers-in-law, sister Ashley, and Joseph are Registered Foresters in Alabama and graduated from Auburn. I have to admit that one brother-in-law, Ben Smith, graduated from the University of Georgia, but has lived in and around Auburn long enough to know it's the better of the two schools! Ha! Check back later for pictures from the weekend. Take care and have a blessed day

Welcome....Finally!

Well, we finally got around to establishing a family blog. I still do not understand the term blog but I know that Laura was really excited about starting one with my little "buddy" on the way, so here we are. Just to catch you up on the goings on of our life... in June of this year we had the amazing opportunity to serve on a short term mission trip with some members of our church, Lakeview Baptist. We traveled to Chiquian, Peru, high in the Andes mountains of South America, to teach conversational English to the Quechua people. Throughout the course of the week we shared the Gospel message through the use of a translator. We were truly grateful that the Lord God allowed us to participate in this experience. I am actually planning a return trip to Peru this coming January. Can't wait!
Two days after returning from Peru we flew to Alaska for an annual meeting of the Association of Consulting Foresters. This trip lasted 8 days and while there we were able to mix in 4 days of sightseeing. Our favorite part of the trip was the train ride through the Chugach Mountain Range from Anchorage to Seward with a follow-up boat ride along the Seward coast viewing whales and sea lions.
Since our return from these amazing travels we have been blessed to experience the excitement of becoming parents. We are due to meet our son this coming March, but to Laura and I it seems ages from now. I know I know, some of you who are already parents are chuckling at what YOU know is to come that WE are oblivious to. That's okay, I'm still really excited about meeting my son! I know our three girls (Liz, Kayt, and Covey) will be somewhat in awe of this new "puppy" we will be bringing home.... JUST to clarify for those who do not know us our "girls" are two Brittany Spaniels and one German Shorthair. They are our best buddies and the best three hunting partners that I have. Knowing myself, there will probably be a whole section of this blog devoted to my upland hunting travels. I try to take alot of pictures from each hunt.
That catches you up to the first part of November 2008. Keep Laura and our son in your prayers as we have our monthly doctor's appointment tommorow. Pray specifically that our son will continue to grow healthy and strong and that Mommy will continue to progress in a positive manner. In Him- Joseph

It's a Boy!!!

On October 9th we found out we are expecting a baby boy! My due date is still March 25th. Our little acorn is doing well. By the looks of everything in the ultrasound he is healthy and is content where he is. He's so precious. It was amazing to see a life so small! We have watched the ultrasound about 10 times! We can't help but look at how cute he is! It is so hard now to wait until March.
